DECAL & GRANITE STONE COMBO

glaze_granit.jpg (12378 bytes)This is a great technique for covering those definite edges on some decals. It adds almost a 3-D effect that is quite outstanding.

Clean and fire your pieces in the usual manner. If needed, pour glaze on the inside and allow to dry before applying clear matte glaze to the area the decal will be placed, and the bottom of the piece. Fire again to cone 06.

Place the decal you have selected into a container of tepid water. The piece will curl up. As it releases from its backing, it will begin to uncurl. At this point it is ready to apply to the glazed area of your project. Wet the area first, then slide the decal directly from it’s backing onto the glazed area. Working from the center outward, remove all air bubbles and excess water. A damp sponge works well for this. Follow with a decal squeegee to make certain nothing remains under the decal. Allow to dry and fire for the last time to cone 015.

Using an old glaze brush, apply two coats of the Granite Stone stain to all areas except the decal and bottom. Create a jagged edge around the surface of the decal. It is very important to dry the first coat before attempting to apply the second. Using a stiff bristled, flat stain brush, drybrush the jagged edges with a black or brown stain. Spray lightly with Flat Matte Spray.
