Let me clarify my answer from earlier. If unwrapped candies are placed inside an unglazed candy shaker there should be no problem. But -
Unglazed clay is not food safe. It is considered non-toxic.
The difference is that if liquid is put in unglazed clay the clay would not hurt you, but the possibility of bacteria growing in the pores of the unsealed clay could be hazardous to your health.
So, why not err on the side of caution and just glaze the inside of the candy shakers with a food safe glaze?
