If you are going to hire employees, you must be an employer. The person that is not performing up to snuff must be fired. Oops, that is both of your potential employees.
As to what you need to pay them, you must follow federal, state and local minimum wage requirements and you must pay Social Security and unemployment insurance on the employee wages.
Somebody is going to say hire them as contract workers. SORRY, that is not going to work. As soon as you direct the person to do a task, the person is no longer a contract worker, the person has become an employee.
